Peak Oil News: - We are finally running out of cheap gas — good

Thursday, May 27, 2004 - We are finally running out of cheap gas — good - We are finally running out of cheap gas -€” good

Our long-standing addiction to cheap oil has cost us dearly in terms of health, global security, human rights and a changing climate. It has also long stifled investment and innovation in alternative energy sources and technologies. Maybe we should look at expensive gas as an opportunity rather than a crisis.

No it hasn't. The technology created by cheap oil has made the west one of the most healthy nations to live in in the world. That's why so many people living a life more in tune with "nature" want to live here.
Not really Atomic Energy was invested in a lot, and has on the whole been very successful, but that's because its a practical way of producing lots of electricity. It'll soon be making a come back thank god.
Without cheap energy, the opportunity for the Third World which has in typical reckless fashion being overpopulating like mad, will be one of mass starvation. The West will no longer be able to subsidise irresponsible breeding, and in true Malthusian fashion a "natural" adjustment will take place. It's where all the bodies are going to go, that's what worries me.
